Guidelines for Submitting a Manuscript in PDF Format

Walch Printing requires manuscripts to be submitted in Adobe PDF format. So if your manuscript is currently in Word or another format, you will need to convert it to an Adobe PDF file before submitting it to us. Here are some handy guidelines to make your - and our - job easier, and to ensure that your finished book looks great and is printed promptly.

  1. Make sure all fonts are embedded within the PDF file. If you are using Acrobat Distiller, then use the Distiller "job options," and that should take care of any embedded fonts. If you are exporting PDF files directly from your working application, then make sure you select "embed all fonts" in the configuration dialog.
  2. When making your PDF file, be sure your resolution quality is at 600dpi for black and white and 300 dpi for color.
  3. Also make sure that you have included an additional 1/8 of an inch for all pages with bleed, to allow for trim.
  4. Save your PDF file under x-1a-2001 as well. This configuration is located in the properties tab.
  5. If your PDF files are very large, we have an FTP site you can upload your files to. Once you have uploaded your files, we can access them from there. For more information, talk to Jen White.

As always, please feel free to give us a call with any questions. We're here to help you.
